Welcome to Carolina Well, the UNC-Lineberger Cancer Survivorship Program. Here you will find support, information, resources, a way to connect with people who have been down the same road, tools to manage stress, ways to move forward and hopefully a relaxing of your shoulders and a sense that you have come to the right place.
Carolina Well was created as part of the University of North Carolina-Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNC-LCCC) efforts to improve cancer survivorship services for North Carolinians touched by cancer, along with the Carolina Comprehensive Support Network and the UNC Cancer Outreach Program. In 2008 the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) invited UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) to join the LIVESTRONG Survivorship Center of Excellence Network. UNC Lineberger is now one of only eight centers in the country, and the only one in the Southeast. We are collaborating with experts across the nation and here at home to empower cancer survivors and their families across the state to have the highest possible quality of life, during and after treatment. To fulfill this mission, Carolina Well is providing a variety of programs and services to help keep survivors moving forward.
Our work has three areas of focus:
Creating and maintaining a cutting-edge survivorship program at UNC-LCCC that includes survivorship care plans to help patients better communicate their needs to their primary care physicians after treatment, psycho-educational programs, resources and tools for wellness.
Partnering with organizations across the state to help avoid duplication of services, identify current needs, and refer survivors to their own local community resources. Many great community resources already exist, and we plan to utilize and improve upon those resources, while creating services to fill gaps where support is needed.
Coordinating with communities across the state to offer local educational and training programs for cancer survivors and caregivers including peer counseling, and continuing education for health professionals. Current community partners include Greensboro AHEC Area Health Education Center, Tri-County Community Health Center in Sampson County, and New Hanover Health Network in Wilmington and East Carolina University in Greenville. These community partners will coordinate survivorship programs. Please visit the rest of our website to learn more about how we can help you.
