Lincoln County Sheriffs detectives are seeking information after two teens described being kidnapped at gunpoint Tuesday and driven to another county.

Man of Year credits his late daughter for inspiration

David Clark Jr. was recognized as the Man of the Year, but he wants to share the honor with his late daughter, Sally Clark.

Clark accepted the honor from the Lincolnton Rotary Club at the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerces Annual Banquet last week.

David Carpenter recently joined 31 other newly elected sheriffs for a leadership training program through the North Carolina Sheriffs Association in Chapel Hill.

A local man accused of stealing from a Lincolnton construction site is in jail on felony charges.

Larry Dale Penley, 57, of Lincolnton, was arrested Wednesday on an accusation of stealing items from the construction site for First Federal Savings and Loan at 320 E. Main St.

Field trips under scrutiny as schools seek budget cuts

Due in part to the struggling economy, the Lincoln County Board of Education will now review school field trip costs the way it does other fees.

Some of the trips, I hope the schools will look at them and see if they are educationally needed considering the expense involved, said Ed Hatley, a School Board member.

First-grade students at St. James Elementary School dressed in period costume Tuesday and taught visiting parents about the first Thanksgiving.
