Our Annual GREAT YARN BUY BACK!
From August 30 through September 11 we are buying any yarn you don’t want for $2 per pound in store credit. We don’t care where you got it or what shape it’s in – little bits or big balls, even partially knitted. It all goes to charity and you get credit to spend in the store on anything you want. We get over a ton each year that we pass on to hospice, prayer shawl knitting groups, the Navy and Marine Corps relief Society, Habitat for Humanity, and local Girl Scouts. You can also bring in any crafting supplies you don’t want and we’ll see they go to a charity that can use them, although they don’t count for the credit. Learn More...
Charlotte Area Yarn Crawl

It’s time to get ready for the 2010 Charlotte Area Yarn Crawl. To participate, just pick up a Passport in the first store you visit and have it stamped at each participating store as you visit them over the 10 days of the Yarn Crawl. The Passports are free and you don’t have to buy anything to get your stamps. All those Crawlers who get at least nine of the 11 shop’s stamps will have their Passports entered in the drawing for the grand prize. There are quite a few smaller prizes, too. Participating stores include: Baskets of Yarn, Cottage Yarn, Charlotte Yarn, The Fibre Studio at Yarns To Dye For, and Yarnhouse in Charlotte; The Needlecraft Center in Davidson; Tranqwool Knitting Provisions in Salisbury; The Yarns Shop by Rainy Day Creations in Pineville; Things Remembered, Custom Framing and So Much More in Gastonia; Tangles Knitting On Main in Waxhaw; and , of course, Knit One, Stitch Too. One of our charity projects is knitting baby blankets or hat/bootie/sweater sets for The Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS). Every baby born in a Marine or Navy family is given a junior sea bag of items and the Society is proud of the fact that they always include hand knitted items. Blankets need to be crib size (36” by 36”) and machine washable. Bring them to the store, and we’ll ship them and put your name into a drawing for a store gift certificate in December. You’ll also receive a very nice pin from the NMCRS for your participation. You’d be stunned to discover how little these men and women are paid to defend our freedom. This is one way we can express our thanks for the job they do.
Our second charity project involves Knitting or Stitching for a Cure to support breast cancer research. For a $10 donation, knitters can select from a host of pink shaded yarns and knit a very long row on our Oddball Shawl. Ten dollars buys a square for stitchers to personalize on a canvas. To date stitchers are ahead of knitters. Once the scarf and canvas are completed, they will be auctioned to raise additional funds for cancer research.
