ABOUT POWELL BAIL BONDING
Larry Powell and his wife Wilma relocated to Wilmington in 1970 where he took a position as a tax administrator. After 13 yrs, he transferred to Buncombe County and took an early retirement. During that time, he also owned Will's INC., a real estate development and rental business, which was primarily run by wife. In 1989, he was approached by his son to open bail bonding business to which he gave consideration and decided to start the business.
Mr. Powell took the NC state exam and became a professional bondsman. Shortly after Mr. Powell obtained his surety license the North Carolina legislation changed the law on the requirements to obtain a surety license, therefore there are now many surety bondsmans in the bonding industry. Mr Powell was the first in New Hanover County to obtain his surety license. Beginning with a small operation of employees, Mr. Powell thought there had to be a better way to control the bonding industry so he assisted in forming the Lower Cape Fear Bonding Association, which he served as president for many years. There were several organizations in North Carolina with other leaders in the bonding industry with whom Mr. Powell worked with to help start a state association that now controls the licensing procedures for all bonding companies. He served on the board until 1999 when he had a heart attack. He stepped down and his son took over the remainder of the term.
His business has grown from the 2 bondsmen to aprox 18 agents with business offices located in 8 different cities in North Carolina. Even though he no longer serves on the NC bondsman board, he is sought out for his advice and opinion in the bonding industry. To say that Mr. Powell is a leader in the North Carolina bonding industry is an understatement. He has helped create legislation, started a business and served on many boards. Mr. Powell is an entrepreneur, a statesman, and an inspiration.

The mission of Powell Bail Bonding Co. is to be the best possible aide to the community, which we serve, including the overall General Public, Defendant, Court System and all Law enforcement agents and Agencies.

1. Save the local taxpayer money by providing a service that prevents them from having to pay for a defendant's housing, meals and medical service which raises tax each year per defendant. This could range from one day in jail to three years. This is another way bondsmen reduce jail crowding.

2. Provide the defendant the opportunity to continue working, providing for his family and contribution to the local community while he/she awaits his/her court date.

3. Fund thousands of dollars each year into our local school system, providing new book supplies and a better education for our children locally.

4. Relieve the workload of law enforcement personnel by assuring if the defendant does not show up for his/her court date, we will bring them in to be returned to court by searching and surrendering the defendant ourselves. This relieves the stress load on local Law enforcement.
