Joy's Stump Grinding and Tree Service, Inc. is a locally owned and operated company. With a deep conviction of faith and pride in workmanship, it was established in 1996 and incorporated in 2000. The owner, Bryan Joy, grew up doing tree work alongside his father as a part-time interest. Once in college, he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in biology with an emphasis in tree biology.

He began the company with its sole service as stump grinding. Quickly, his attention to detail and strong work ethic "spread the word" so to speak and the business was overflowing with requests. Many of his "stump" customers often requested tree work as well. Having a great deal of knowledge of trees and their care, it became apparent that this business was to expand to include the scope of tree work.

Bryan equipped his company, little by little, with employees who are knowledgable, efficient, and perhaps most importantly, have high ethical standards. Today, Bryan runs 2 crews daily and is very involved with every aspect of the business. The pride he takes in his work is evident from the first handshake and continues down even into the cleanliness of his equipment. His employees are often complimented and he has a long list of very satisfied customers.

Bryan: Bryan and Jenny both grew up in northern Mecklenburg county. They met in high school and as they say, "the rest is history." Once Bryan graduated college (UNCC - with a degree in Biology), he managed a fitness center for several years. During that time, he continued to work with his dad on "Saturday Tree Jobs." One thing led to another and here he is now!

Bryan is a hard worker and is committed to providing quality service. Outside of work he enjoys camping, racquetball, and golf. He has a great sense of humor. He is very involved in his church, is a devoted husband and father, and seeks the Lord's will in his business and his life.

Jenny: After college, Jenny became a school teacher and later obtained a Master's in Counseling. After several years of working as a school counselor, the two "Joy boys" came along and it was apparent that her life was to take a different direction. Bryan's business was growing by leaps and bounds and needed a good office manager! So Jenny applied for the job and was immediately hired! Outside of work, Jenny homeschools the boys, enjoys scrapbooking, and camping. Bryan and Jenny have worked together for 7 years and are very grateful for how the business has been blessed. It is definitely a family affair!

The Joy Boys - Eli and Ike: While they are not official members of the tree crew, they are certainly well known throughout the company! Eli and Ike proudly display their Joy's Tree Service" t-shirts when they visit jobsites (sometimes even bringing a "goody" for the crew). Both of them had a toy chainsaw before their first birthdays. While it is not certain if they will carry on the family business, it is certain that they have and will continue to learn the value of a good work ethic. Eli enjoys Tae Kwon Do while Ike is pursuing his interest in golfing.

Ted: Ted is Bryan's dad. He has been in the tree business as a part-time interest for over 35 years. He introduced the business to Bryan before he was even a teenager. Every Saturday, Ted and his crew (made up of mostly family members) would remove and trim trees. After retiring from BellSouth, he came to work for Bryan. His knowledge of tree practices was and is still being passed down to others. He performs all tasks in the business, but is most well known for his talent in the bucket truck. All of our crews look up to him as a role model. He is hard worker (very hard worker), conscientious, courteous, and one of the nicest guys anyone could ever meet. Our customers love him! He is one of the most integral parts of our company and we are very appreciative of his dedication. Outside of work he enjoys fishing, fishing, and more fishing!

Stephen "Chief": Stephen is Bryan's uncle. He is our expert stump grinder as well! Not only does he grind stumps, but his skid steer work is some of the best in the tree business. He retired from Duke Energy and came to work with Bryan as a part-time interest. His part-time quickly grew into full-time (except for Thursdays when he and Ted take off for fishing)! He brings breakfast biscuits to the crew each morning and is well loved by everyone on our staff. He has a vested interest in our company and we value his loyalty. Outside of work, Stephen is very involved in his church and enjoys fishing as well.

Luis: Luis was our first employee (outside of the family). He joined our crew over five years ago. Boy, did we luck up! Luis is one of our climbers as well. It would be an understatement to say that climbing is his only job. He is well versed in all of the aspects of services we offer. He is a hard worker and loves to joke around.

Paco: Paco and Luis are brothers. Paco came to work for us shortly after Luis. Paco is humble, always in a good mood, and is a pleasure to be around. He grinds stumps, ropes for our climbers and bucket men, and works as a groundsman. Simply stated, Paco is a hard worker and we are very grateful to have him on our crew.

Omar: Have you ever heard of a "workhorse"? Well, that's Omar. He is one of our climbers. Omar never stands still. He is constantly looking for something to do. He is one of the most energetic people we have ever seen. Although he is generally quiet in nature, his actions speak volumes for his work ethic.

Juan (Donkey): If Omar is considered the "workhorse" then Juan is the "stronghorse." If there is a heavy log to be lifted, Juan is your man. Not only does he work hard, but he smiles all the time! His attention to detail is unsurpassed. He performs all of his duties to perfection. He is definitely the kind of guy you want to be on your team because you know the job will get done right the first time. It is simply a pleasure to just be around him.

Gary: Garyaffectionately known as "Big Bird" trades in his suit and tie in the summer (he's a high school teacher from late August until early June) for a pair of old blue jeans and dirty boots. All of the guys look forward to his arrival. He brings a fresh attitude to the long, hot days of summer. Gary is a hard worker and at the same time is very humble. He makes the best of every situation and is one of those guys that makes you feel good just by being around him. We are very fortunate that he chooses to spend his summer vacation with us! Outside of work, Gary enjoys cooking. Many of his friends call him the "BBQ King"!
