A Light on the Hill: Building to Serve, the combined Annual and Capital Giving Campaign is underway. Information about the campaign is available here. Pledges may be made online by clicking here. The ministries of the parish are dependent on generous pledges from all parishioners and friends of the Chapel of the Cross.
Episcopal Campus Ministry will meet on Tuesday, November 2, at 5:30 p.m. in the campus center. All university students are invited; ECM meets weekly for food and fellowship. This week’s discussion will focus on death, dying, and the afterlife. Contact the Rev. Tammy Lee for more information about campus ministry.
Project Homeless Connect, a one-day event to provide a range of services to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming so, will be held on Thursday, November 4, at the Hargraves Community Center. Volunteers are needed. Contact Betsy Champion for more information about this event.
Part three of a four-part presentation on The Revelation to John by Dr. James Efird, retired professor of Old and New Testament at Duke Divinity School at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 4. Contact Gretchen Jordan for more information about this class.
Reading with a View to Spirituality, a book group, will meet on Saturday, November 6, at 12:30 to discuss Turn My Mourning into Dancing: Finding Hope In Hard Times. Contact Raquel Goldberg for more information about this group.
All Saints’ Sunday, November 7, will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. with a children’s procession. Saints’ costumes for the children’s procession may be created at home or borrowed from the Christian Education office. Contact Boykin Bell for more information about the children’s procession. At 11:15 a.m. a Solemn Eucharist, including names of those who have died since last All Saints’ Day, will be sung. Send names for the necrology to submissions@thechapelofthecross.org.
Adult Education on Sunday, November 7, will include: (1) a continuation of the five part series titled Faithful Living, Faithful Dying, (2) a class for parents of young children focusing on ways the proposed building plans will serve children and families and talking specifically about giving as a part of parenting ministry, and (3) Growing with Our Aging Parents, a support group for those with aging parents.
All classes will begin at 10:20 a.m.
Millennium Development Goal #6 involves the purchase of mosquito nets. The fifth grade church school class is holding a bake sale between the 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. services on Sunday, November 7 to purchase one net per member of the class (a total of 25). Please plan to support our youth in this endeavor.

Young Adult Fellowship invites those in their 20s and 30s for coffee and doughnuts following the 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. services on Sunday, November 7. The Outreach Ministry Committee will meet on Sunday, November 7, at 12:45 p.m. in the parish library. Interested parishioners are invited to attend the meeting or to contact committee chair Barbara Tremblay.
The Outreach and Global Mission Committees will sponsor a Benefit Concert of Celtic/Appalachian Music by Little Windows in the church on Sunday, November 7, at 3:00 p.m. Donations from the concert will benefit the Inter-Faith Council and the Kwasa School in Springs, South Africa. Contact Mary Kent Hill for more information about the concert.
Episcopal Youth Community will meet on Sunday, November 7. People in grades 6 through 8 will meet at 5:00 p.m.; those in grades 9 through 12 will meet at 6:30 p.m. Contact Caren Parker or the Rev. David Frazelle for information about EYC.
Parish Visitors will meet on Monday, November 8, at 2:30 p.m. in the parish library. Contact Bob Comey for more information about this important ministry to the homebound members of the parish.
RSVVP Day in the community is Tuesday, November 9. On this day more than 100 area restaurants will donate 10% of their total proceeds to benefit the Inter-Faith Council’s food programs. See website for more information.
Bach’s Lunch, a series of free, 30-minute organ recitals in the church, continues on Tuesday, November 9, at 12:15 p.m. This recital will be presented by Brian Coggins of the Chapel of the Cross. Bring your box lunch and enjoy the concert.
Parish Woodcutters will meet on Saturday, November 13 to cut, saw, split, and deliver wood to members of our community who need it to heat their homes this winter. Contact David Brown for detailed information about this project.
Donations to the Kwasa School in Spring, South Africa will be carried by members of the Global Mission Committee who leave on November 19. New books for preschoolers, children’s musical instruments, and art supplies are among the items that can be carried. Contact Linda Haac for a complete list of needed items.
The Inter-Faith Council’s requested donation for this week is spaghetti pasta and sauce; donation baskets are located in the church, the Yates wing, and the parish office.
