Eat the fish and spit out the bones!
There will be nuggets in these pages that was the tip you were looking for or glad you found.

What Every Homeowner Should Have the Opportunity to Consider

I ask 3 questions to every person I meet in preparation of their quote:

Do you consider your last job worth the money it cost you?

I realized that functional obsolescence exists in the world of painting as in other things in todays marketplace. It used to mean something when the Made in the USA label was sewn into the good.

It was very well built and would outlast most other products similar to it. You would go out of your way and pay a little more for the superior product.

Most homeowners today bought their house from someone who knew very little about its construction. They didnt see the house built, or may not even know the builders name who signed off on it.

One thing that is known, is that the quality of house built in the last 20 years does not compare with the standards of many years ago.

I did a job recently for a Builder who was managing a large remodeling project. This homeowner had even told us that he felt secure in this economy with his 85 million dollars in cash safely tucked away for when he needed it.

Why then would the Builder insist on using low budget, cheap painting materials on this of all jobs. His answer,"This guarantees well be back in a couple of years to fix it again."

Case in point..This is the poster child for functional obsolescence. It was built with failure as its goal to guarantee work down the road.

I meet homeowner after homeowner who has been forced to paint every 3-4 years to maintain their biggest investment. This is totally ridiculous. I have some houses painted in 1995 that have only been cleanednot repainted.

Most homeowners are never given the choice to purchase a paint job that will last 12-18 years. This is the only paint job I sell..one that will last 12-18 years. This is possible but not realized by many homeowners.

Generally, I never get the chance to work for people selling their homes since they will not benefit from this type of job. But, the potential buyer might be interested in less negotiation if he was aware of this.

My job is rarely the low bid but if you cost average over 12-18 years, youll find my job is the best value, costing much less than any other cheap job you may be offered to consider against my quote.

You do have a choice to make. I always look forward to meeting another homeowner who desires a job done correctly, with longevity built into place.

I like to spend a little time with each potential customer to lay out for them what is involved in getting a superior job, its true cost, and a proposal generated to do the job with longevity as a consideration.

Is this the type of job you prefer? If you feel as I do about longevity and value, let's talk.

I would look forward to preparing your proposal in this manner.

To make our time working at your house a pleasureable experience for you and your entire family
To bring you the longest-lasting job that is the best value of all the ones you considered
To deliver a job you will be proud to showcase to your friends with confidence knowing the value you obtained
To be referred to those friends
To be able to help you with your upcoming painting decisions from the information found in these pages

We see one common thread with all of our customers.
Each one has an upper-end mentality.

This has nothing to do with their address, occupation or income.
It directly relates to the job's performance they're getting ready to consider.

The components of this mindset is proper surface preparation, the use of top-of-the-line materials, a proper paint build and then most importantly....maximum life.

Favor & Smith's Preferred Painting is based in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Since 1995 we have been delivering superior paint jobs to homeowners and businesses.

Being fully insured
Members of the BBB with A+ rating and a No Complaint History
Seasoned with many years of experience

Over 50% of all jobs I look over to estimate have problems that should not be there. We fix them getting the job into "maintenance mode."
We're not just Housepainters. We consider ourself to be Painting Engineers. We not only know how to fix problems, we know how to prevent them from ever beginning.
A good 75% of all exterior jobs I estimate have been painted in the last 2-5 years. We have some exterior jobs we painted in 1995 that have only been cleaned, not repainted,
At least 90-95% of the jobs I bid were not primed properly when built.
This cancer could have been eliminated if Builders had quality with longevity in mind rather than profit. We work for no builders since our mindset regarding the paint project is incompatible with their standards.

Ask anybody if their exterior paint job gave them 15-18 years of service before repainting. We welcome that conversation when it comes up.

Our exterior repeat business is almost non-existent since our jobs bring maximum life.
We deliver a risk-free job.
You will not be taking a chance with us.
Our large customer referral list, an average of 26 years experience per crew member and a Better Business Rating of A+ with no complaints drives home the point...
We're Dependable and In This for the Long Haul.

As Consultants For some people, all they need from us is what's in our head.
We specify the job's process, make material suggestions and assist in putting a painting budget together.

Our purchasing quantity enables us to get you contractor pricing on all your materials which could save you around 35% versus retail purchasing.
This type customer plans to do all or most of the work themself but wants to assure no mistakes are made.

As Instructors Some people find it attractive to hire us to work along side them to get them started correctly.
We assist the Do-It-Yourself painter by supplying certain equipment needed for the job that the DIY does not intend or need to own.

Some Do-It-Yourself painters need for us to handle a part of the job that is too high, or too difficult for them to undertake.
Safety comes first...ALWAYS.

Who started the big lie that painting was easy and all you had to do was open a can and go at it?
The fellow in this next video most certainly contributed to this deception.

Many people believe what's said and get themselves in trouble.
The only thing taught correctly here is how to fall on your face.

Speaking of falling.
I have a friend who was working on her windows and took a wrong step.
She crushed both heels, missed a year of work and learned to walk all over.

The fellow in this video violated the rule of being on a ladder on hardwood flooring without being secured.

My business partner, Ried Favor has jumped out of helicopters and painted 300 foot water towers.
Needless to say, he is not afraid of height.

Most DIY should be. It can kill you, the fall that is.
You should not be up an extension ladder if you have not completed and been certified in the "Ried Favor Spiderman School of Climbing and Ladder Jumping."

The fellow in this video should have enrolled...even the online version is better than nothing.

Should not have ladder resting on guttering.
Ladder used is not rated for his weight and height of job.
Round rungs should not be used. They kill your feet.
Ladder was not secured when working over pavement.
He should not have been working alone.

We teach the DIY how to be safe by following the rules and not taking any chances that could lead to an accident.

Many people have a very high skill level in painting and are just as good at painting as we are.....but they move alot slower and don't have the time needed to complete their job.
We bail this DIY out all the time.

Watch this next video. This is a couple that could use our help.

Why We are the Best Value.... The shocking reality of painting costs.....
The cheapest job up front ends up costing more in the end earning the Most Expensive Award.....
The most expensive job up front ends up costing the least in the end earning the Most Value Award.....

If you cost-average over the life of the job, you'll find that the job we deliver is the most economical. It will normally cost more up front but because of its life span, will cost you less per year to own.

When most other people are repainting, you'll be cleaning only. Our goal is to get you into maintenance mode and stay there.

We think one of the most important things in work and life is to keep a light heart. No matter if you're painting a house, changing a tire, or filling a cavity, laughing reduces stress and allows you to do a better job. There is a cure for laugh deprivation. If you like or need a laugh, from a joke, video, funny picture or cartoon, check out our other website,

Favor and Smith is somewhat "old school" in dealing with the customer, providing a superior paint job. Our jobs last longer and are the best value.
