DOCTORS MAKING HOUSECALLS is a group of 21 experienced, board-certified physicians making 35,000 visits a year to homes and businesses throughout the Triangle. Since its inception in the summer of 2002, the group has grown to prominence as the nation's largest practice dedicated to caring for patients in the comfort and convenience of their own environment.
The practice has re-created "housecalls" as a 21st century phenomenon. Its vision of home-based primary care (HBPC) is being duplicated around the country, including in many top academic centers. By artfully blending cutting-edge technology with evidence-based, patient-centered care, Doctors Making Housecalls brings "the best medicine has to offer" into the most convenient, comfortable locations. The net effect is better care and lower cost for both patients and payers.
We specialize in the care of complex patients, but we're happy to address routine problems as well. Our service improves access to care and quality of care by combining clinical excellence with uncommonly high levels of service and personalized attention. Whether your problem is urgent or ongoing, we come to you with the ability to diagnose and treat virtually any medical problem.
Regarding insurance, Doctors Making Housecalls is now "in network" with just about every government and private carrier. Your insurance will cover our professional fees just as it would if you were seen in an office.
When we see patients in a private residence or place of business, we charge a modest "trip fee" to offset the opportunity cost of the physician's travel time. No insurer pays this fee because they view it as a charge for convenience. But you can think of it like a higher co-pay, similar to the higher co-pay you'd incur when you see a sub-specialist, or go to the ER or urgent care clinic.
Our practice provides a broad range of services, from urgent care for acute problems to comprehensive, ongoing care for the long-term management of any medical condition, including those requiring the long-term administration of IV antibiotics, chemotherapy or parental nutrition.
Whatever our patients need in the way of tests and studies, we can provide in the home or, if necessary, arrange outside the home -- whatever it takes to fully evaluate and treat any medical problem. In fact, we can do more in your home or place of business than most physicians do in their office, including complete physicals, blood tests and panels, x-rays, EKGs, sonagrams and doppler studies!
Our physicians specialize in adult (internal) medicine, geriatrics, family medicine, pediatrics and psychiatry. When the needs of our patients require subspecialty expertise not represented within our group (e.g. cardiology, gastroenterology, dermatology), we refer to consultants carefully chosen by our medical director, or work with sub-specialists already established with our patients.
We see patients from 2 to 102 years old, in homes, business, hotels and retirement communities throughout the Triangle -- from Burlington to Wake Forest, Pittsboro to Zebulon, and everywhere in between.

We are "in-network providers" with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, Cigna and all other private insurance except United HealthCare. We also accept and file Medicare and Medicaid; and yes, we are accepting new Medicare patients!
We file all insurance forms and, for your convenience, accept credit cards for payment of charges not covered by insurance, such as co-pays, deductibles, and our trip charge where applicable. Because we accept every insurance and do not charge an annual fee, we believe our service is affordable for almost everyone.
