Welcome our newest Seaboard Staffers.....
We are pleased and excited to have Ty Wagoner and Amanda DeLorenzo join us here at Seaboard Wine! Many of you will recognize Ty from his management days at the old Frazier's Bistro and Porter's City Tavern on Hillsborough Street. Amanda hails from Tampa where she worked at some of the finest restaurants in Florida, including Bern's Steakhouse which boasts a 500,000+ bottle wine cellar; and she has worked restaurants and retail wine sales in Nantucket. Both Ty and Amanda bring us extensive wine & food knowledge, professionalism and enthusiasm, and they are looking forward to meeting our Seaboard customers!
Thursday 11/011 & Friday 11/012 - Wines for sale by the glass & flight or sample at the Tasting Bar (4-8pm):
Hillinger Welschriesling 2009; Burgenland, Austria - Lush, ripe pear, green apple and fresh citrus flavors dominate the palate of this wine, which - despite its name - is of no relation to the Riesling grape. It is fresh and dry on the palate, though full-bodied and fleshy by Welschriesling standards. It makes a refreshing aperitif, and can be served with a variety of light seafood, chicken or pork dishes.
Sur de los Andes Malbec 2008; Mendoza, Argentina - This juicy, easy drinking Malbec exhibits a nose of black cherry, plum and toasty oak. Bottled without filtration, it is medium-bodied with length that belies its price. Enjoy it with grilled pork, flank steak or hearty roasts . A nice 'alternative' red for dinner parties.
Carchelo 2009; Jumilla, Spain - This richly textured blend of Monastrell, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon has intense dark fruit aromas with a hint of oak and a spicy edge. Concentrated, assertive and inky, this is no shy wine. Sip it on a chilly night, or pair with a thick cut steak, grilled lamb or oven roasted root vegetables.
Saturday 11/13 Free Tasting (12-4pm): German Riesling with Damon Haynes from Centerba - If you like Riesling, want to learn more about them, or would just like to know how to decipher a German wine label, this is a tasting opportunity you don't want to miss! Damon Haynes from Centerba Selections will be here to talk about the new wave of German wines with emphasis on crafting dry yet complex wines, simplifying the wine labels, and the wide range of foods you can pair with Riesling. We will be sampling a selection of dry style Riesling from the Mosel region in a range of quality levels including Qba, Kabinett and Spatlese. Prost!
Note: All the wines poured at the Tasting Bar are discounted 10% by the bottle for you to take home and enjoy!
Let us host your next party, social or business meeting! Our tasting bar and gallery is available at select times for private functions including business meetings, social events and structured wine tastings. For inquiries, rental rates and details please email info@seaboardwine.com
Spter-Veit Piesporter Domherr Riesling Kabinett trocken 2009
A satiny, smooth, delightful dry Kabinett, fermented spontaneously in tank. Domherr, a well-weathered slate site within Goldtrpfchen, is inclined toward opulence, but in both vineyard and cellar Heinz aims for (and achieves) wines of balance and relative reserve. Beautiful orchard fruit aromas and a long crisp finish. ($19.99)
Stein St. Aldegunder Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett trocken 2009
A dry Mosel Kabinett under 10% alcohol (!) from the Stein’s oldest parcel: an east-facing slope with small terraces in the original (pre-1971 German Wine Law) Himmelreich, with ungrafted vines, many over 100 years old. Those old vines shift the conversation away from Oechsle-mania and toward a more subtle, crucial understanding of physiological ripeness. It is a traditional, light, dry Kabinett aged in Fuder and highlights the more tangy style of Mosel Riesling, with delicate lemondrop notes and firm acidity on the finish. Very refreshing. ($24.99)
Steinmetz Mlheimer Sonnenlay Riesling Sptlese 2009*
One-star Sptlese from the Sonnenlay vineyard (blue slate), a cooler clime on a hillside situated away from the Mosel River with its idyllic setting of rolling hills and pastures. Wines from Sonnenlay tend to be more delicate than those from the Juffer, and there is a snap here that makes short-term drinking compelling and long-term cellaring a delight. Penetrating peach & honeycomb aromas with a full bright finish. ($24.99)
Weiser-Knstler Riesling feinherb Qba 2009
Off-dry Estate Riesling fermented in Fuder and later aged in tank from grapes hand-harvested in Enkircher Ellergrub and Trabener Gaispfad. A perfect introduction to the pleasure principle that guides the winemaking here: juicy, joyous, and refreshing tangerine/tropical notes. ($22.99)
Kermit Lynch "Sunflower" Cotes du Rhone Blanc 2009
Blended by importer Kermit Lynch, the 'Sunflower Cuve' is a medium- to full-bodied white that is bursting with aromas of peaches and apricots. The wine is completely dry on the palate, with moderate acidity and a lingering finish. This easy going wine, which Kermit describes as "100% quaffable," is a great match for shredded pork tacos topped with a mango-peach salsa. ($17.99)
St. Kilda Chardonnay 2009, Australia
Talk about bang for the buck! The 2009 Chardonnay from St. Kilda offers a roller coaster ride of fresh melon, ripe peach, and lemony citrus flavors. A great example of a no-nonsense wine, this easy-drinking white is delicious on its own, but pairs well with creamy pasta dishes and roasted chicken. ($7.99)
Mazzoni Sangiovese • Merlot 2007, Tuscany, Italy
The Mazzoni is a blend of two traditional grape varieties - Sangiovese and Merlot. Created by a longstanding family partnership between Italy's Franceschi family and the Terlato family from the United States, this Super Tuscan is the perfect marriage of old and new world techniques with the Sangiovese providing a firm backbone and body, while the Merlot brings a luscious mouth-feel and lingering finish. Try it with slow roasted meats, sauted mushrooms or grilled spicy sausages. ($17.99)
Jean-Marc Brocard ‘Vieilles Vignes’ Chardonnay 2009, Chablis, Burgundy, France
“ Complex, ripe aromas of citrus fruits, minerals and flowers. Broad, fat and rather powerful in the mouth, with fresh citrus and menthol flavors supported by an underlying mineral strength. Subtly mouthcoating finish is fresh and persistent.” Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jul/Aug 09. ($32.99)
How do you re-introduce a wine that has been a perennial favorite on the shelf for fourteen years? How about lowering the price to what it cost in 1996! This unique and popular California blend is extremely fragrant with honeysuckle, jasmine and peach aromatics. Shows an intriguing medley of melon, nectarine and passion fruit flavors, with juicy acidity and a long, lingering finish. Because of its universal appeal, Conundrum is a great wine for parties and casual dinners.
