Dr. Willen has been focusing on the treatment of Fibromyalgia Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue for years. He has studied under some of the most well written and published doctors throughout the nation concerning these illnesses and consults with them on a regular basis. Dr. Willen has found that although Fibromyalgia patients are often looked upon by the medical community as "medical misfits," most can get improvement within a short amount of time.
The mystery of the Fibromyalgia illness is treated at the Fibromyalgia Solutions Center of the Triad using a step-by-step protocol. Dr. Willen first spends approximately over an hour with the patient taking a history, doing a thorough exam and than explaining to our patient how their symptoms relate or do not relate to Fibromyalgia. If there is a possibility of the patient having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, than Dr. Willen will explain the difference between Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia. One of Dr. Willen's first goals is to get the patient a deep restorative sleep. Getting a deep sleep will allow the body to heal, decrease pain and increase the patient's energy. Dr. Willen knows that these patients complain of little to no energy. It is a major symptom that is initially addressed.
Many patients with Fibromyalgia have the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Some patients we treat have not had a normal bowel movement since childhood. Typically, IBS is one of the easiest symptoms of Fibromyalgia to achieve significant relief. Further, the symptoms of forgetfulness and lack of concentration are associated with Fibromyalgia and are commonly known as "Fibro Fog." There also may be an emotional component with a patient experiencing either depression or anxiety.
Typically, after the end of the first office visit, the patients tell Dr. Willen and his staff that he has spent more time with them than any other doctor has in their life.
