John Lucas has been teaching and practicing architecture since first being licensed in Maryland in 1976. His consulting has taken him to Texas, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. The practice has been based in Central Pennsylvania for the past sixteen years. The work is diverse ranging from single and multi-family homes to urban parks to memorials to activity centers. (The firm, John Lucas, Architect, was previously known as Lucas Associates, Architects).
Architecture is a complex art requiring sensitivity to site, program, materials, beauty and budget. Our approach is to center on the most enduring aspects of the particular project through dialogue with the client and through careful design explorations. Our process is not fast track, but involves serious repetitive drawing and modeling as a method of visualizing the most effective design possible for each client and situation. We draw from an array of successful built projects.
Experience and expertise has led us to an emphasis on small home design, memorial and commemoration design projects. Public and private memorials represent an architecture of enduring dignity and respect. The small house continues to stand as a challenge to innovation and efficiency...an acknowledgement to the limited resources of our planet.
Our focus is on architectural design with construction document preparation and building administration resulting through collaboration with larger, production-capable firms.
