Thanks for Another Successful Blood Drive
Our American Red Cross Blood Drive on November 7 was a success. Thanks to our many donors and those from Greystone Baptist Church, we collected 29 units of lifesaving blood. In addition, this drive is always a nice afternoon, with much socializing and cookie-eating going on. We are especially appreciative of our helpers: Julia Altemose, Wanda Eickhoff, Dana Geesaman and Bob Shankland. Each of them went out of his or her way to be there to assist with registration or canteen duty. Our heartfelt thanks go to all the donors and workers.

Please note that our Advent Festival is an Outreach Event and all are encouraged to invite friends, neighbors and families from the community to join us at the Festival. Dinner includes pot roast, baked potatoes (French fries for children), salad and homemade desserts.

Participate in the Dessert Contest - Categories include: pies, cakes, cookies, brownies, and Jell-O creations. Share your baking talents with the congregation for a chance to be taken to lunch by Vicar Vince!

RESERVATIONS CAN BE MADE IN THE NARTHEX ON SUNDAY. ADULT COST IS $8; CHILDREN 12 AND UNDER $4. DEADLINE FOR RESERVATIONS IS NOVEMBER 7TH.

At the October 24 Election Meeting, the following persons were elected:

Council Members (3 year terms): Meg Ehm & Sam Poston
Endowment Ministry Team (3 year terms): Greg Cash, Jeanette Kuchenreuther and Tien Landstrom
NC Synod Assembly Voting Members (2 year terms): Randy & Mary Beth Neuhaus - Two year terms
PLM Families Together Board: Colleen Vitek - Three year term

GSLC Stephen Ministry on PBS
PBS recently produced a short story on Stephen Ministry through their Religion and Ethics department that featured Good Shepherd’s Stephen Ministry program. Included in this 7 minute video are clips from the training of our new Stephen Ministry class and several of our current Stephen Ministers and Leaders: Pam Mansueti, Elizabeth Arrowood, Allan Dickson, Karen Crews, Angie Glendenning, Kim Sweet, Pam Montgomery, Rene Anctil, Rob Crews, and Jeanne Van Divender. There is also a brief interview with Pastor David.

Our new class of Stephen Ministers will be commissioned on Sunday, April 25 at the 10:45 worship service.

Thanks be to God for our Stephen Ministers and how God works through them to offer companionship and hope to people who are hurting!

Youth Return from National Youth Gathering in New Orleans - 2009
The 28 youth and adults from GSLC returned from the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans summer. GSLC’s area of focus was housing. Housing projects included learning about the housing crisis in our country, understanding New Orleans housing needs before and after Hurricane Katrina, some limited Habitat for Humanity projects, painting homes and churches, supporting neighborhood associations and learning about homelessness. Now that they have returned the group will begin to look at ways that they can address the housing issue within our community here in Wake County.

On April 25 and 26 our musicians and singers from past years at Good Shepherd gathered for rehearsal, food , MORE food and worship!
Our Choir Homecoming event was coordinated by Kris Allsbury, Ellen Goode and Lois Walker and we were so blessed to have with us Dale and Sonia Franz, Barbara Huff and Jan Carpenter along with many other friends and singers.
The weekend began on Saturday April 25 at 9:30 am. We met at the church in the morning for coffee and rehearsal. Our musicians and singers were directed by Dan Heyl and Carol Henderson and the rehearsal included two anthems and other worship music in preparation for two worship services on April 26th. After the rehearsal we went to Jason’s Deli for lunch where the food is the “most healthy in Raleigh” and also includes free ice cream! The afternoon was free time and at 6:30 pm. we came together again for potluck dinner hosted by Ellen and Larry Goode. We ate wonderful food and had a joyful time around the piano while Bill Shelton improvised Broadway tunes and we sang and danced. We returned to the church in the morning after a good night’s rest and sang for worship at our two worship times of 8:15 and 10:45. We then said farewell to our old and new friends and resolved that this would become an Annual event.
Wild Women Invade Lutheridge

P.S. There was also a Wild Women Left Behind, hosted by Robin Kirk, for Wild Women who wanted to participate, but couldn't go this year. Pastor Mary even sent some of her materials for them to use!.
