Granite is an igneous rock, which means it was once molten and formed as it cooled deep within the earth. It is a natural dense-grained, hard stone and naturally beautiful. The process of fabricating granite is very difficult. It must first be extracted from a mountain in a large block form, then cut and polished with diamonds and water. Minerals within granite typically appear as small flecks throughout the stone, creating a "salt and pepper" look. Other types have veining similar to marble, thus each slab is unique. Granite can be highly polished or finished in a variety of other ways. A broad spectrum of colors are available. Granite's durability and longevity make it ideal for kitchen countertops and other heavily used surfaces, including table tops, floors and bathroom vanity tops.
