Pam Stearns was part of a panel of experts for a day-long financial case-study sponsored by the Society of Financial Service Professionals. She focused on the tax and financial planning aspects of the case, including a number of special tax-related issues around estate and divorce planning. Over 100 financial professional attended the workshop.
Stearns Financial was again named by Business Leader Magazine as one of the Top 100 Business in North Carolina for 2009. For the second year, it was the only financial planning / investment management firm included in the Top 100.
SFSG President, Dennis Stearns, spoke in April at the Financial Planning Association's annual retreat-a planning conference frequented by the top financial planners in the country and from 20 nations overseas. Dennis' talk was entitled "Planning in a World of Accelerating Change: How to Successfully Deal with the New Abnormal." He discussed SFSG's 2010 scenarios for the economy and various asset classes. Dennis then led the attendees on a tour of plausible future scenarios impacted by three Super Trends - Globalization, Technology Accellerators and the Global Age Wave. He shared planning ideas for helping clients in a variety of circumstances successfully navigate the massive change that lies ahead of us. The FPA has called Dennis "one of the leading scenario experts and futurists in the financial planning industry."
Dennis presented SFSG's 2010 Economic Forecasts in an "Age of Turbulence" series update for the American Association of Individual Investors Triangle chapter. Clients and their professional advisors will receive the podcast summary as part of the first quarter economic briefing.
Stearns Financial hosted Greensboro's Financial Literacy Week, which included financial education workshops and a visit from the national tour of the NAPFA (National Association of Professional Financial Adsivors, the "fee-only" members organization) Money Bus. The Greensboro event has been the star of the tour so far, beating out Boston, Baltimore, Raleigh and many other major cities with consumer participation in the educational program. SFSG's Dennis Stearns chaired the weeklong event and led several educational workshops, and SFSG's Glenn Joyce, Sarah Lee, Jim McKee, Scotty Scott, Joyce Staley and John Thomas all participated in Money Bus educational events.
