Adoption FAQs

Read a first-hand account of one family's adoption journey.

The toddler in The Daily Post's life is all over the place these days. It's so inspiring to see the joy in his new discoveries each day. If only we could all remember how monumental it was to pick up (and quickly tear up) a leaf on the ground or the excitement over seeing a dog ... and the list goes on. But focus is not something the little guy has a lot of yet. He loves to pull a book off the shelf and thumb through it, but wait, why not pull all the books off the shelf rather than one or two for mom to actually read with him.

All this said, there have been times when The Daily Post has wondered could her tot be showing signs of ADHD. Aah the momma freak out. But luckily, just when the thought drifted in, so did the weekly parenting e-newsletter from Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital that hit on just that subject.

Toxic metals found in cartoon drinking glasses

I haven't really been alone in more than two years. Keep in mind that I have two young children, and my wife and I work full time. There have been those peaceful moments to myself in the bathroom, on those occasions where I've thought to lock the door. I also seem to take more time navigating my trash and recycling carts to their proper destination for pick up on Wednesday nights.

Mom-Tested: Mommy's Messages
When these little notes dropped on my desk, it was love at first sight! Yes, I am a lunchbox love-note writer, and honestly my son has tired of the handwritten notes on napkins, signed with hearts. The encouraging little messages I write have become an embarassment in the lunchroom... "Mom, I am in 5th grade!" So in steps Mommy's Messages.

Shrek on Self-Esteem
Maybe we can all learn from Shrek. Learn to believe in ourselves, live a simple, authentic life, and learn how to be in the moment, and get out of our own way. Learn to keep it simple and be satisfied with who we are and thankful for what we have ... even if it's living in a swamp with a donkey for a friend.

Share the story of Who-ville and the Grinch, and three other Dr. Seuss classics with these collector's edition books and plush toys.

Yes. It's necessary discipline to get children to pay attention and learn better behavior.

Sometimes. When all else fails, a pop on the bottom is last resort.

Never. It's teaches that hitting is OK and doesn't help children learn from their mistakes.
