Tucked away in historic, beautiful downtown Elizabeth City, our North Carolina bed and breakfast, the Culpepper Inn, is just one-hour drive from Norfolk International Airport, Virginia Beach, VA oceanfront, and the Outer Banks resort areas of eastern North Carolina. This three-story brick Georgian Revival style manor was built by William and Alice Culpepper in 1935 and is situated in the center of the historic district of Elizabeth City, NC. The Inn is only six blocks from the center of town and the harbor front on the Pasquotank River.
Voted "Best Bed and Breakfast in Elizabeth City" 2008
The Inn features eleven guest rooms - four in the Main House, one suite in the Carriage House, and six in the Camellia Guest House. All of our guest rooms feature a private bath. The Inn is surrounded by lush grounds with beautiful old live oak and magnolia trees, and the property is accented by over 20 different camellia trees and bushes. The Tavern Room, in-ground pool and the rockers on the porch, as well as the fairy garden with a water feature invite our guests to linger and relax during their stay. This atmosphere can be a welcome change from typical hotel accommodations.
Guests will find the Inn on a lovely, quiet street along one of the historical walking tours in Elizabeth City. The Inn offers beautifully decorated rooms, amenities galore, and a gourmet breakfast each morning. We accept all major credit cards including American Express as well as selected gift certificates. The Culpepper Inn is smoke free and pet free and has an ADA compliant room for those with special needs. Check-in is from 3 pm to 6 pm with check-out the next day at 11 am.
The Culpepper Inn is available to host weddings, meetings, and events both inside the Inn with room for up to 75 and outside on the grounds with room for up to 150. We offer customizable packages for your special occasions and holiday celebrations. From family reunions to retreats, the Inn is a wonderful place to be together as a group. We also offer long-term rentals in the Camellia Guest House and Carriage House.
The weather is starting to turn cool and there is frost on the windows in the morning… time to bring in the herbs and make pesto. We have been experimenting with new recipes for breakfast plus getting the Inn ready for winter. This will be our first winter with the fish in the pond. Hopefully they will all make it to spring. The roses are still blooming but I am sure with the nights getting down in the 30’s, that will end soon.
With the holiday season coming soon, we will start planning for parties at the Inn plus several weddings. We are a wonderful place for events with all our holiday decorations and large rooms to spread out. We also provide the Tavern Room for smaller events and parties. While it keeps us busy, it also makes the holiday season fun for all of us. Last year, we even had a family stay with us over Christmas and have Christmas morning at the Inn – Santa, stockings and all.
We invite you to join us for a night, a week-end or longer. You will love spending time in Elizabeth City during this joyous time of the year.
