There’s something very bittersweet about graduations. It marks the birth of a new beginning and a bold step into what lays ahead, but it also means that a chapter of life is coming to a close. To cope with the rollercoaster of emotions the graduates and their families feel, we distract ourselves with celebrations.
While graduation party venues so far are restricted to privately catered parties at home or a party hall rental in the back of a Chinese restaurant, we urge you to stray away from the unoriginal and do something different (read special) for the graduate. A dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour seems idyllic in more ways than one. Everyone will anyhow be dressed in their best to attend the ceremony, why should we let that go to waste? Plus, there will be a lot of photographs to be taken, after all, it is graduation night!
Here’s a few steps you could follow to make this dinner cruise in Sydney a lavish affair:
Guest list (friends, family or both)
This depends entirely on the new graduate, whether they want to spend graduation night with only friends, only family or a bunch of close friends and family. I know I fall in the third category. There’s a wide variety of Sydney Harbour dinner cruises to choose from depending on who is invited. In my opinion, for a graduation dinner with friends, a fun harbour cruise with dinner, drinks (only if all involved are above the age of 18) and a show on an authentic paddlewheeler is perfect! A glassboat luxury cruise with an 8-course degustation menu seems ideal for a formal family celebration. If it’s a mix of friends and family, ascertain the overall style of the crowd, which brings us to the next point.
Style of invitees and tone of the event
The venue you choose should reflect the invitees and the purpose of the celebration. If your guests are anything like the people in my life, then they’re probably a raucous bunch who wouldn’t do too well in an extremely formal setting. Cheering on a bunch of pretty dancers and singers while enjoying dinner (which we shall get to soon) on a Sydney paddlewheeler dinner cruise sounds like something we would enjoy.
I do, however, know of a lot of people who prefer celebrations indulging in the finer things in life. They’d do better on a sit-down classy affair dressed in their best on a glass boat dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour which screams luxury!
Food
With roving Sydney Harbour views guaranteed on any dinner cruise, it finally all comes down to the food. Somehow, in my opinion, a buffet just doesn’t cut it for a graduation dinner. There’s something about restaurant-style dining that holds its charm for a celebration like this. We’re sure to get fancy, the question here is- how fancy? A three-course hearty meal on a Sydney Harbour dinner cruise with a show or an 8-course degustation menu on a glass boat cruising with 360° views of our favourite city, it’s all your call!
Use the evening to reflect and toast to the trials and challenges the fresh graduate has overcome thus far and hopes of ushering in success and good fortune for the future. Celebrations are for sure in order!
